While your manager departing for pastures new halfway through the season can never be truly looked upon favourably, the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are largely delighted about the fact Mark Warburton is no longer in charge at Ibrox. 

Other than a Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic, the former Brentford coach never seemed to properly prepare the Gers for the biggest games in the calendar – enduring a rather awful record against the likes of the Hoops, Hibernian, Hearts and Aberdeen.

So, with ‘Warbs’ now gone, the Gers propping up the bar are desperately hoping the club can lure a certain Frank De Boer back to Glasgow, after he played for them for a season back in 2004. Currently out of work himself, the Dutchman has been linked with a move to Ibrox, a move that could certainly be a coup for the club.

With that in mind, here are THREE reasons why it’d be sensational for the Gers.

Brings the glamour back

While things never got quite this bad for Celtic, we’ve seen what the arrival of a fairly big name coach at Parkhead has done for the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers has completely revitalised the Bhoys, turning them into a slick winning machine, breaking all kinds of records along the way.

Even a fraction of such glamour at Ibrox would be very welcome indeed, something desperately needed to bring some competitiveness to the SPFL.

Knows the club

As mentioned, one of the major criticisms labelled at Warburton during his stint in charge was the fact he never quite seemed to understand the importance of rivalries within football to a club like Rangers. While he surely would have known about the Old Firm, games against Hibs and Aberdeen are also monumental occasions for the Gers.

Having played in Scotland himself, albeit only for a year, De Boer will know all about it.

European experience

A club the size of Rangers really should be playing European football, something that will surely delight their long-suffering fans no end. The Gers have a great shout in landing a Europa League qualifying berth and De Boer knows all about the continent from his time with Ajax and Inter Milan.

A wonderful tactician in the Dutch capital, he’s got European pedigree to boot.
