The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have enjoyed a good few days as the summer draws to a close…
The undoubted highlight of the last week, and indeed the summer in its entirety, is the recent capture of Naby Keita. Though the midfielder won’t be joining the club until next summer, he has officially agreed to join the club ahead of next season – leaving the fans in the pub feeling delighted.
For many fans, Keita is exactly what they’ve needed. A strong, agile and high energy midfielder that will provide them with a real dose of quality in the middle of the park, he’s likely to have a massive impact next season.
The priority of Liverpool, though, needs to firmly be on this season, and with the transfer window slamming shut this evening, could anyone come to Anfield and make more of an immediate impact?
There are certainly a few players potentially in the pipeline, but will any transfers get over the line in time?
Let’s take a look at a couple that certainly have a chance of happening…
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Reds appear to have gazumped Chelsea in their move for the Ox, and it appears to only be a matter of time before this deal is done.
He’ll give Klopp a real dose of versatility in the midfield, and his endless energy will be vital as Liverpool begin a very chaotic season.
He won’t come cheaply, and Arsenal will be keen to get as much as they can out of the Englishman, but he looks set to leave the club, and a move to Anfield certainly makes sense.
Virgil van Dijk

Could it still happen?
This deal has been touted all summer long, but Liverpool appear no closer to getting a deal done.
That said, it doesn’t make sense for Southampton to hold on to him if he doesn’t want to play, and so perhaps a last minute scramble could see this deal done.
It’ll be an expensive move, but it could be a game changer for the Reds.
