Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern finally had something to cheer about in midweek as their side produced an impressive display to see off second place Aberdeen 3-0 at Ibrox, and thus move up to third in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers remain without a permanent deal over a month on from the sacking of Pedro Caixinha, with former Reading and Southampton defender Graeme Murty taking over on a caretaker basis. And the 43-year-old led the side to a much-needed victory over Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen on Wednesday night, with a James Tavernier brace as well as a first half strike from Carlos Pena more than enough to seal the three points for the Scottish giants, in turn moving them up to third in the table and to within three points of the Dons.
Consequently, there have been many upbeat Gers fans in the Tavern this week, although many remain somewhat frustrated with the time it is taking for their team to appoint a new full time manager, what with Caixinha sacked all the way back on October 26.
Yet there could be some movement on the management front if the bookies are anything to go by, as former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has seen his odds significantly shorten in recent times, with the Spaniard now down to 7/1 to take over at Ibrox.
The 44-year-old has been out of work since losing his job at the Riverside Stadium earlier this year, this all after steadying the ship on Teesside and eventually leading the club back to the Premier League, only for Karanka to oversee just four victories from their opening 27 league games.
Yet the ex-Real Madrid assistant is being heavily backed to become the new Rangers chief, which is news that has stimulated quite a reaction from Gers supporters on Twitter…
Where’s this Aitor Karanka to Rangers came from, wouldn’t mind him at all.

Aitor Karanka at 3/1 with some bookies. He’d be a more than reasonable appointment.

Aitor Karanka is now second favourite for the Rangers job. Bit of a mixed bag at Boro.

Wouldn’t be the worst appointment
