Speaking to The London Evening Standard last night after Spurs drew 0-0 with Bayer Leverkusen, Jan Vertonghen urged the club to give Hugo Lloris another contract, much to the agreement of the Lilywhites fans here in the Transfer Tavern.
The France international stopper was in fine form as he kept the German side at bay, particularly in the second half when they were really creating a lot.
One save in particular got the Spurs fans eulogising over their number one with cries of ‘How did he save that?’ rife in reaction to him scrambling across to stop a nailed on goal from Javier Hernandez.
The performance left the Belgian in no doubt that he wants to see Lloris extend his stay at the Lane:
Vertonghen said: “He is our captain and a very important member of the squad. I don’t know what is going on right now [with contract negotiations] but I hope he will be at Tottenham for many years. I wouldn’t swap him for any keeper in world football. The save he made from Hernandez was unbelievable. You could say that’s what he’s there for, but this stop was just different class.”
Many of our Spurs fans agree, they truly wouldn’t swap him for any other ‘keeper on the planet as the club took another step towards qualifying for the knockout stages, with two group games at home to go!
