Rangers travel to the Pittodrie Stadium to face Aberdeen tonight and they will be looking to stay hot on the heels of Celtic.
There may be a six-point gap between Rangers and table-toppers Celtic at the moment, however, in football things can change in an instant.
If Rangers can get the better of Aberdeen tonight and Kilmarnock do not improve their form from the past two games then it could be an all but certain two-horse race for the Scottish Premiership.
To stay within striking distance to Celtic, Rangers must win tonight and with that being said, these two players starting will certainly boost their chances…
Jermain Defoe
Steven Gerrard has two fantastic strikers at his disposal, but it is clear that when they play together, it does not benefit either of them.
Rangers should not deviate from their usual 4-3-3 to accommodate both strikers, no matter as to how good they are. Alfredo Morelos has been used on the wing in the same side as Defoe but he does not have the same impact there that a natural winger would.
Defoe has two goals and two assists in four games for Rangers, so given that form, he should be trusted to start on his own tonight. Given that Morelos performs better as a lone striker, rotating the pair up top seems to be the best option.
Daniel Candeias
If Morelos is left on the bench, that leaves another spot out wide to help Ryan Kent in flanking Defoe in the front three.
Candeias should be used here as he has not featured as much as usual recently and he provides that natural width a winger offers, as well as his relentless work-rate down the right-hand-side.
A start would give him a chance to nail down a regular spot in the starting 11 once again as he has started just one of the last three League games.
