Tottenham didn’t sign anyone over the summer, and so you’d expect January and, indeed, next summer to be far busier for Mauricio Pochettino.
They can’t afford to stagnate for any longer, with new faces required in north London.
Significantly, though, in addition to any incomings, it’s looking like at least one current player could be willing to say goodbye to Tottenham. According to Calcio Mercato, Mousa Dembele has decided that he wants to leave Tottenham at the end of his contract, meaning that he could leave either in January or next summer.
It would be big news if the talented Belgian were to leave the club, but he shouldn’t be the only man to leave Spurs in the near future. Indeed, there are a few players that, at present, look as though they’ve run their course at the club.
With that said, here are 2 players that should follow Belgian ace out of Tottenham if he leaves…
Danny Rose
Danny Rose has been in a bit of a weird position since he returned for Tottenham. He’s spent much of the last 18 months or so on the sidelines, but he’s returned this year, and he’s had a decent role thus far.
He’s made 5 league starts, and given his competition, that’s a decent return.
However, it’s fair to say that Rose hasn’t been the same player since his infamous interview with the Sun, in which he criticised his club.
Make no mistake, he’s still a good player, but Rose is no longer the essential cog in Mauricio Pochettino’s machine. Ben Davies has done brilliantly in his absence, and he’s earned his spot as the first choice.
Rose still has a role to play, but maybe it’s time for him to be sold. He’d still demand a hefty fee.
Fernando Llorente
It’s hard to say anything about Fernando Llorente that hasn’t already been said before.
The Spaniard hasn’t been able to make an impact in north London, and having now struggled for over a year, it’s evident that he’s never going to turn it around.
A January departure, truthfully, should be one of Tottenham’s priorities.
The Lilywhites can’t expect to win anything without being able to rely on someone other than Harry Kane. They’ve just got too many fixtures.
Llorente must go, and a worthy replacement must be sourced.
