Derby County: Fans react as Jason Knight is made captain for the first time

Many Derby County fans were reacting to the news that Jason Knight was given the captain’s armband for the first time during Saturday’s match.

The club tweeted this news ahead of the big Championship match against Rotherham. Many fans flooded to the tweet to rave over this update, with one supporter even him a ‘king’ after the news emerged.

Before the Rotherham match, Knight had featured 22 times already this season (WhoScored). He has impressed this season, and when Wayne Rooney managed to pick up his first win as interim coach, he praised the midfielder, saying: “Knight gives you great energy all over the pitch.”

All associated with the club have had to deal with months of media reports speculating that various sides are interested in him and Wayne Rooney giving him the armband could be a statement to say that the club want to keep hold of the 19 year-old.

That’s what the fans are hoping anyway, as they flocked to the news to praise Knight and beg for him to stay with the Rams.
