Derby County are ‘keeping tabs’ on defender Sam Reed ahead of a potential move, according to journalist Joe Crann.
The Lowdown: Reed profiled
Reed is a left-back who plays his football for Brighouse Town in the Northern Premier League East Division, but is aiming to move on to bigger and better things.
The 19-year-old is currently on trial with fellow League One side Sheffield Wednesday, where his impressive performances have been catching the eye of a couple of potential suitors, particularly from Pride Park.
The Latest: Derby eyeing Reed
Taking to Twitter, Crann revealed that Derby are monitoring Reed’s situation as they weigh up whether to make an approach. He wrote:
“Sam Reed, 19, is trying his luck at #SWFC at the moment, but I understand that both Sheffield United and Derby County are also keeping tabs on the Brighouse Town teenager…
“He’s quit his job to fully focus on football now – could potentially play today.”
The Verdict: One for the future
Reed is still very much developing as a player and is in need of more experience at a higher level but he would be a hugely exciting signing for the future of Derby.
Brighouse’s talented prospect has already surpassed 50 senior appearances despite his young age and will no doubt want to have a similar consistent run of games for a more household-name club.
The Rams only have Craig Forsyth at left-back and he’ll be out of contract at the end of the season as it is, so Reed could potentially be an ideal reinforcement for Paul Warne.
