Lots of Derby County fans have been replying to a tweet from The Athletic’s Derby correspondent Ryan Conway which shared the news that Duane Holmes has completed his move from Pride Park to the Rams’ Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.
Per Conway, Holmes has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at The John Smith’s Stadium.
Additionally, the journalist shared that the Rams will receive no transfer fee upfront for the 26-year-old before explaining that this means Holmes is leaving Pride Park on what is ‘essentially a free transfer.’
So, how have these Derby County fans been reacting to this news?
This news drew a negative reaction from many fans of the East Midlands club, with plenty of Rams fans baffled as to why their club would allow the £2.25m-rated man to leave on ‘essentially a free transfer.’
“What’s the point in that?”
“If we’ve done this because we’re ‘still confident’ the takeover will be completed, someone needs sacking”
“Absolute joke of a club at the moment. Ridiculous.”
“That’s mad if there’s no fee.. can ONLY be to allow a loan in, surely”
“What, why surely that makes no sense on our part. Even with his contract running out.”
“Derby way, who deals with our transfers at the club as they are absolutely terrible?”
“That’s ridiculous, another 700K write off for the only successful permanent transfer brought in by Lampard.”
“If he’s not our player, we don’t have to pay him, We are in a mess.”
