Do You Suffer From ‘Final Score Syndrome’?

There was a time in the dim and distant past when you could be a bit depressed at the euphoria of Christmas passing and the weather going from jolly snow to cold dull rain and it was just normal and not a seasonal adjustment disorder. A time when you could tell the Prime Minister you were a bit worried about things and not be branded a bigot on national telly.

Now it seems you can’t listen to the footy whilst endangering the lives of dozens without being branded a dangerous mentalist. This country’s gone to the dogs. Sorry – developed a canine awareness protocol.

Football fan Phil Jolley demonstrates the dangers of ‘Final Score Syndrome’ in this short film.   Insurance company MORE TH>N found that seven million UK football fans that drive suffer from everything from sudden heart rate increases and decreased levels of concentration, to sweaty hands and mild feelings of nausea when listening to teams matches on the radio.

Phill Jolley, a Liverpool fan living in London, volunteered to have his driving monitored on camera while listening to a crucial Liverpool-Chelsea clash. It turned out to be a disastrous day for the Reds, and Phil – who almost ran a red light, stalled the car, missed another car pulling out and made a string of other mistakes during the 90 minutes.

David Rose from the Football Supporters Federation said, ‘This piece of research has drawn attention to an issue millions of football fans can associate with – the problem is the vast majority don’t realise just how dangerous it can be. We know that tension runs high at the business end of the season but our number one focus is the welfare and safety of supporters – for that reason we urge everyone to take heed of these figures.’

Well now, when it comes to football, one man has for many years been the most noticeable, the most controversial, and occasionally the most successful blogger this country has ever produced. His pithy words and abrasive style make him as famous off the pitch as he is on it. This man is Escapini. "I love football. Football she's a cruel mistress. She's, she's more than a mistress. She's a wife, she's a mother, she's a daughter, she's an errant child. She's a… she's a… she can make you laugh, she make you cry. She can bring tears me eyes. She can bring blood to me shoulders. She can bring a kettle to the boil." "Cause football is about nothing, unless it's about something and what it is about, is football."
