Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are growing increasingly concerned at how things have gone in recent weeks for their club.
After looking like one of the biggest challengers to Chelsea left in the Premier League the men from White Hart Lane have seen their season take a big couple of hits.
They lost to Liverpool at Anfield last time out in the Premier League before getting dumped out of the Europa League in the week against Belgian side Gent.
Things, then, need to be addressed and one man in particular needs to come out of the side for a while according to our landlord – Eric Dier.
After a great first season the England international seems to have really gone off the boil this year and the main man behind the bar thinks these two reasons prove why it’s time for him to have a spell on the bench…
His concentration has gone

Last season there really were few better at playing as a holding midfielder than Dier.
He was always switched on and read the game impeccably but this season his focus looks to have gone astray. That was only demonstrated catastrophically as recently as the game against Liverpool in which he had a shocking time and at this level one lapse is all it takes to lose matches.
There are better players in his position

Dier has played as both a holding midfielder and central defender this season but in both positions he is trumped at the moment.
For sure, at centre-half he is always going to be behind the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen but it’s in centre-midfield where the biggest blow has come to him. Victor Wanyama has been top drawer this season for Spurs and Dier has been buffered around to make room, losing confidence and a high-level of performance in the process.
