Dutch boss confirms Arsenal bid wasn’t forthcoming in January

Schneiderlin.jpgSouthampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still upbeat about the future as talkSPORT reveal that no bids were received for their star players in January with Arsenal not tabling an offer for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has come out and confirmed that none of his stars were close to leaving St Mary’s last month.

Manchester United had been tipped to capture Nathaniel Clyne whilst Arsenal were seen as concrete favourites to land French international Scheiderlin.

This is in stark contrast to the period Saints fans endured last summer where Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers all departed the south coast club for pastures new.

At the end of the window, Saints fans could reflect on the club landing Eljero Elia and Filip Djuricic on loan, not to mention sealing the permanent transfer of Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea and our neutrals admit it was time the Saints got given a break!

“Nobody was close to going because there wasn’t a serious offer for one of these players,” said Koeman.

“I wasn’t afraid to lose one or more of these players. I am very pleased with the window because I said after the game last week I wanted one more.

“And finally we got Filip Djuricic in on loan until the end of the season and we kept everybody at the club.

“There was a lot of rumours that some players would leave, but I am happy with the squad and those who are back from injury.”
