Arsenal could face competition from Italian giants AC Milan for the signature of Riccardo Montolivo with the Serie A side considering a move for the player as close as January.
It had appeared that the North London side could make a move as early as January as they look to continue adding to their squad after what was an expensive final few days of the summer transfer window. AC Milan though are still looking for an experienced midfielder to take over from Andreas Pirlo who was sold on in the summer to Italian rivals Juventus.
Whilst neither club would be looking to get themselves into a bidding war, the fact that at least two sides could be seriously interested could work in Fiorentina’s favour with the players contract coming to an end at the end of this season and they will want to earn as much as possible should the 26 year old refuse to sign an extension.
Montolivo does not seem like the sort of player Wenger would normally go for and should AC Milan look to offer slightly more that Wenger’s side, it is likely that the Arsenal manager would be happy to look elsewhere for a new midfielder.
