Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a big January transfer window from Ed Woodward.
United have had their best start to a season since the great Sir Alex Ferguson retired, having endured some torrid seasons under David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal. Indeed, it’s the first time our local Mancunians genuinely believe that the Red Devils have a fighting chance going into the New Year.
Despite the absolute excellence of Manchester City, Mourinho has done well enough to at least keep within ever so slight touching distance.
Woodward has reportedly given Mourinho a £80m budget to spend on improving the squad in a bid to secure the Red Devils first title in the post-Fergie era and our regulars think that these two players would enhance the squad and strengthen the areas Mourinho has identified has weak links in his team.
Our landlord takes a look at the two players in question.
Alex Sandro

The left-back position has been a problem area since Patrice Evra left the club, and although Luke Shaw is the only recognised specialist in that role, due to injuries and inconsistent form, it’s made surely Mourinho make signing a left back a high priority.
Sandro could improve United both defensively and on an attacking front, while having already displaced Evra at Juventus in recent seasons, he would surely be a ready-made replacement for the former United fan favourite.
Leon Goretzka

The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed for club and country, and with his contract running out in the summer, United could be able to pick up the German at a cut-price this January.
Despite being injured, United may push through a move to fend off competition from rival clubs. Goretzka is one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga and would certainly improve this United side, as well as deprive any of their rivals the chance to land him.
