Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited for their future under Unai Emery after the Spaniard was announced as the successor to Arsene Wenger.
The 46-year-old left his role at Paris St Germain to take the reins at the Emirates and has wasted no time in revamping his squad. Juventus defender, Stephan Lichtsteiner, became his first signing as Arsenal boss joining from the Italian champions when his contract expires. Indeed, the Gunners will reportedly also seal a £16m move for Borussia Dortmund defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, in the coming days.
There is still plenty of work to do done if Arsenal are to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season. With Jack Wilshere yet to sign a new contract and Aaron Ramsey also considering an exit, landing a new midfielder should be a priority. Marouane Fellaini has been linked with a move from Manchester United, but Arsenal need a deep-lying playmaker who can dictate the tempo of the game.
Instead, Emery should return to Juventus and launch an audacious attempt to bring Sami Khedira to the Emirates. Valued at £23.4m by Transfermarkt, the German has been a key for the Old Lady since moving from Real Madrid on a free transfer back in 2015. Last season, he made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists. He would be the final piece of the puzzle in the Arsenal midfield.
Khedira is a well-rounded midfielder, who is competent going forwards and backwards. The 31-year-old is physically strong and would add some much-needed steel in the Arsenal engine room. He can be used as a number six or a number eight making him an excellent option for Emery to have at his disposal.
If they can lure the Germany international from Turin, it would be their best signing for years.
Arsenal fans, thoughts?
