Leeds United fans have been treated in the Transfer Tavern this week after the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa and links with a number of Premier League players.
The new boss will be looking to make serious changes to a squad that finished 13th in the Championship last season and one man whose place is at risk is, the Dutchman Vurnon Anita.
Anita played 22 times in the league and cup last season for the Whites at both left-back and right-back but has failed to impress the Leeds faithful. Unlikely to be on a small wage, the former Dutch international has little to justify himself in West Yorkshire, much to the frustration of the punters propping up our bar.
The former Ajax man signed on a free transfer from Newcastle last summer and has two years left on his current contract. Still, Bielsa would be wise though to cash-in on the 29-year-old and re-invest the money back into his squad with a signing from the Premier League.
One young rising-star that the former Argentina and Chile manager should take a look at is Everton right-back Jonjoe Kenny. Scouse-born Kenny has risen through the youth ranks at Everton, eventually making his Premier League debut in May 2016 against Norwich.
With Seamus Coleman injured for much of last season, 21-year-old Kenny made 28 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, providing three assists in the process.
He was also involved in the England U21 squad’s successful Toulon Tournament campaign this summer. His work-rate and marauding forward runs would no doubt make him the perfect player for the high-tempo Championship and certainly could help a promotion push at Elland Road.
Valued at just £4.5 million by Transfermarkt, he would provide much stronger competition to Luke Ayling than Anita has and would improve the quality of the squad Bielsa has inherited from Paul Heckingbottom.
