To say that Idrissa Gana Gueye had a good game today would be a criminal understatement. The Senegalese midfielder was heroic as Marco Silva’s side beat Brighton 3-1 and the Portuguese gaffer will be absolutely delighted with his midfielder’s N’golo Kante-esque performance.

Whilst the fans failed to vote for Gueye as the man of the match, with Richarlison being voted after his double saw the points come home, that doesn’t mean the fans weren’t over the moon with how he played. His endless running and willingness to make space for his teammates with his passing and work rate were instrumental in his side’s win and if he can replicate that performance in the next few weeks then it’s hard to see The Toffees losing.
It would be easy to just look at the result on Sky Sports and assume that Richarlison was the start of the show. His two goals were very well taken and having the likes of Theo Walcott and Gylfi Sigurdsson around him helped, but without Gueye in the engine room it’s fair to say that the win would have been much harder to come by, and all of the fans understood that when they were lavishing praise on their midfield man.

Well taken two goals by Richarlison but @IGanaGueye was unbelievable today. Made so many tackles and interceptions. Absolute tank. Great game blues.

Gueye was head an shoulders above everyone, allowed everyone else to do what they do

The Everton fans watching on loved having Gueye in the engine room and will hope his form can continue into the festive period.
