There were times during Everton’s superb 0-0 draw with Chelsea that The Toffees looked like they could nick a famous win on the road. However, it wasn’t to be and instead they dug in for a brilliant point on the road. After 75 minutes, though, the fans were fearing the worst as Marco Silva brought off Gylfi Sigurdsson for Phil Jagielka as he aimed to settle for a point.

Bringing on Jagielka was a bold move from Silva and one that could easily have backfired on him. Sigurdsson is without a doubt Goodison Park’s most creative force and his ability to pluck a goal or an assist from thin air always makes him dangerous. When he was substituted it was clear that Silva knew what he was doing, although for a lot of fans ut brought back some godawful memories of Sam Allardyce’s days at the club.
When the Everton fabs look back at the end of the season, it will be to a resilient display on the road as they stopped Chelsea from firing, even if they couldn’t take one of their chances and hold out for a memorable three points. It was a day where both defences were on top form and the fact that Sigurdsson was hooked for a central defender showed what kind of day it was at Stamford Bridge, even if the fans were fuming to see their Icelandic star taken off.

Whilst The Toffees were far from pleased to see Sigurdsson swapped for Jagielka, the experienced centre-half helped see out the draw and the result is always more important.
