Everton are looking to get deals done on Deadline Day to add strength to their squad, but have already had a move rejected this morning.
The Toffees are currently ninth in the Premier League table under David Moyes, but their attacking threat has been depleted in recent weeks following an injury to Jack Grealish and Illiman Ndiaye’s AFCON commitments.
Indeed, Ndiaye returned to Finch Farm last week after winning the African tournament with Senegal, alongside Everton teammate and compatriot Idrissa Gana Gueye.
However, with Grealish expected to be out for the rest of the season, the club are looking to the January transfer window to bolster their attacking threat before the 7pm deadline tonight.
BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel took to X to reveal Everton’s most recent approach:
“Fulham reject enquiry from Everton for midfielder Harry Wilson. Approach received last week but was instantly rebuffed. Wilson out of contract in the summer.”
Who are Everton’s Deadline Day targets?
There is no doubt that Wilson would be an ideal signing to fill the huge gap in attacking threat that Grealish has left behind in his absence.
The 23-year-old Wales international – once hailed as “magical” by Y Clwb Pel-droed – has been a source of attacking brilliance for Fulham this season, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in all competitions so far.
However, Everton will have no time to rest on their laurels, and if they are serious about acquiring a new addition, they must move on quickly from the Fulham ace.
In terms of their options, BBC Sport reported on Sunday afternoon that Everton are set to secure a loan deal for Chelsea winger Tyrique George.
The initial loan deal is expected to feature an option-to-buy clause for the summer, with George set to undergo a medical at the club today to complete his move to Merseyside.
The expected arrival of George may provide a short-term boost, but given the scale of the void left in Moyes’ attacking options, they are unlikely to stop there.
As the clock ticks down on Deadline Day, Everton remain poised for further movement as they look to ensure a lack of firepower over the business end of the season does not compromise their promising league position.
That said, Everton will be one to watch in the remaining hours, and a deal for George will be the least of the expected incomings over the course of the day.
