Everton’s £4.5m-rated kid would be the Tavernier replacement Rangers fans deserve

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with their early summer transfer business now Steven Gerrard has officially started work as their new manager.

The former Liverpool captain has brought a host of backroom staff from Anfield to Ibrox which kickstarted the summer revamp. The ex-England international also completed four signings before sealing a £2m deal for Croatian defender – Nikola Katic – from under the noses of Spartak Moscow. More signings are expected before the window slams shut.

Our punters are hoping that Gerrard will be able to convince right-back, James Tavernier, to stay at the club. The 27-year-old was a key player for the Gers last season, making 33 appearances in the SPL, scoring a remarkable seven goals from the back. His performances have reportedly attracted interest from Premier League side, Crystal Palace. Should he decide to leave, he needs to be replaced.

To do so, he should look at Everton defender – Jonjoe Kenny. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old is one of the most promising youngsters at Goodison Park. Gerrard spent his first day as Rangers manager watching Kenny play for England in the Toulon Tournament. He made 19 appearances in the Premier League last season, but Seamus Coleman is now expected to re-take his place in the starting eleven.

Kenny needs to be playing regular football to continue his development. Coleman himself spent a season at Blackpool before returning to Everton as a much better player. Rangers would be the perfect place for Kenny to develop and hand Rangers an ideal Tavernier replacement.
