Though the Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern were delighted about the club’s work in the market over the course of the summer, some of them were at a loss last night.
Indeed, our resident Red Devils watching Tottenham in Champions League action on Tavern TV last night could not quite believe just how good Serge Aurier looked at right-back at Wembley.
The Ivorian was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the course of the summer and, with Jose Mourinho fielding Ashley Young in that role against Basle, our drinkers are frustrated about the fact he wasn’t signed.
Aurier looked imperious against Dortmund last night and perhaps the fact Mourinho didn’t opt to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams will prove a huge mistake, with only Antonio Valencia a regular option at right-back.
