Ex-Liverpool boss claims Man United ace is wrongly positioned

rooneyManchester United fans are over by the pool table with our landlord here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they debate the latest gossip coming from the Daily Star who have weighed in on the Wayne Rooney debate.

The England and Manchester United skipper has seen Louis van Gaal utilise him in a deeper role this term and given that caused significant issues in Rooney’s relationship with former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, all eyes are on the Red Devils to see how their star man responds.

Whilst Rooney seems to be taking it on the chin at the minute, one man is not exactly thrilled with the developments and given he relies on Rooney to score goals for his side, we are not exactly shocked.

The man in question is of course England boss Roy Hodgson who seems to think that there is only one position for Rooney and that is as the main forward.

Hodgson was speaking about the Rooney conundrum and made his feelings fairly clear, noting: “Well he’s a goalscorer isn’t he?

“So one always likes to see ones goal-scorers in positions where they can get into the box and in and around the box.”

As one of our punters notes, surely the bigger issue with the attacking conundrum at United is the fact that Rooney has been ousted for Radamel Falcao who is, well, one up from Fernando Torres in his Chelsea days, at times!

Manchester United fans. Where do you think Rooney belongs? Should van Gaal be using him as an out-and-out forward? Let us know your thoughts below.
