Exclusive: Dean Windass says Newcastle will be going all out to sign Joe Willock

Dean Windass has exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that Steve Bruce will be bending over backwards to try and bring Joe Willock back to St James’ Park next season.

The on-loan Arsenal midfielder arrived on Tyneside in January, and marked his Newcastle debut by scoring in the crucial victory over Southampton five days later.

Willock would then go six matches without scoring but ended the campaign in blistering form.

Having come off the bench to rescue a point against his parent club’s arch rivals Spurs, the 21-year-old would end up scoring in seven consecutive Premier League matches – becoming the youngest player in history to achieve that feat and first in Newcastle colours since Alan Shearer in 1996.

Willock’s goals alone earned Newcastle eight points, and saw them quickly move towards Premier League safety.

Bruce has already confirmed that the club would love to sign the midfielder permanently, and Windass has echoed those thoughts.

He told the Transfer Tavern:

“Steve will be bending over backwards to try and sign him. Those will be the discussions with Ashley and Steve, but he will need more than Willock next year.”
