Exclusive: Dean Windass tips Sam Allardyce to be named new Palace manager

Dean Windass has tipped Sam Allardyce to make a sensational return to Crystal Palace.

Allardyce spent six months at Selhurst Park during the 2016-2017 campaign, replacing Alan Pardew just before Christmas with the Eagles deep in relegation trouble.

But Allardyce worked his magic and led Palace to safety, although he surprisingly left his position just two days after the season ended.

Following failed stints at Everton and most recently, West Brom, where he lost his proud record of never having been relegated as a manager, Allardyce is once again a free agent.

The Baggies made an offer to keep the former England boss at the Hawthorns, but he didn’t want to commit his future and therefore made the decision to step down.

Despite those claims, Windass thinks that Allardyce would be Palace’s number one choice to replace Roy Hodgson after he left his role as Eagles manager before the end of the season, and be the man to take on the significant rebuild required at Selhurst Park.

He told The Transfer Tavern:

“We mentioned Sam previously, if he wants to go down that road.

“I think he could be favourite to get it. If he wants it, then I think he could be favourite.”
