Flashback: Aitor Karanka appointed as Nottingham Forest boss

Nottingham Forest are still yet to find their perfect manager, despite appointing Martin O’Neill back in January, as things haven’t exactly gone perfectly.

Indeed, Forest fans thought they’d found their dream manager on the 8th of January 2018 as Aitor Karanka was appointed as the club’s new boss.

Supporters took to Twitter to express their delight over the club’s major decision.

Aitor Karanka was appointed as Nottingham Forest boss on the 8th of January 2018.

Karanka was backed financially in the summer, signing Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho for a club-record fee of £13.2 million and striker Lewis Grabban for a reported £6 million.

But, his future was surrounded with doubt in December when Forest slipped out of the play-off places during a run of five games without a win. Indeed, Forest were 3-0 up at Norwich but failed to hold on as they ended up being held to a 3-3 draw and they failed to beat the likes of Millwall, Preston and QPR.

Forest found themselves in seventh position when he asked to be released from his contract, so he hadn’t exactly done a bad job and fans can now see just how well he was doing as Martin O’Neill has taken them to eleventh.

It’s safe to say that Forest fans would have loved to see him at the club for longer as they appeared to be heading in the right direction, despite suffering from a rough patch, but they’ll now have to deal with O’Neill at the helm.
