Forget Lamela: Tottenham should cut ties and move for 1 of these 2 stars instead

Our Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to bring in a similar quality of midfielder should their Pochettino opt to axe Erik Lamela from his long-term plans in Spurs’ new stadium this summer.

Erik Lamela has been linked with a new contract, after impressive displays in his comeback from having a year out following a hip injury.

However, while he would be sorely missed at Spurs and our regulars think that Mauricio Pochettino can find a worthy replacement. Indeed, that was an unthinkable notion given the last few months, though things change quickly in football. Still, the Argentine would be a welcome addition to any top European club and should Pochettino decide to cut all ties, then there would be a plethora of clubs just waiting to snap Daniel Levy’s hand off for the winger.

Recently, Spurs have found themselves in the top-four once again, thanks to Chelsea’s poor form since the turn of the year and their constant progression looks to be continuing. Still, if they harbour any ambition to kick on next season, then a top quality midfielder has to be high on the priority list in the summer, should he depart.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO potential stars to replace Lamela, should he move…

Nabil Fekir

Nabil Fekir is having one of his best ever seasons in Europe at the moment. He is banging in goals left, right and centre and helping Lyon in Ligue 1 climb the table. Indeed, his range of passing and direct dribbling ability would surely mix things up at Spurs and he could be the player to sit just behind Harry Kane whilst feeding him assist after assist, much like he has done for Lyon this the majority of this season.

With Tottenham often struggling to break teams down with pace and directness, he could be the man to unlock a defence.

Wilfried Zaha

The Crystal Palace winger has been in sparkling form of late and is one of the main reasons behind Palace’s Premier League resurgence.

Although he didn’t quite make the grade at Old Trafford, the decision to opt for a return back to The Eagles seems to be paying off bigtime.

Following a string of outstanding performances in the Premier League either side of his injury, the Ivory Coast international is looking back to the majestic talent that earnt him a move to United in the first place. A move to Spurs would see Zaha make the step up in level once again and you’d think this time he’d be better prepared to fully take his chance.
