Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what has happened to their prodigal son Paul Pogba in recent weeks.

The Frenchman has been back at Old Trafford for his second stint at the club for 18 months now, and many of our fans still feel like he’s not reached the heights he did at Juventus.

This could be down to a lot of different factors. One is playing in the wrong position, not something you can blame him all too much for. Jose Mourinho has used Pogba as a deep-lying playmaker alongside Nemanja Matic, a berth in which he so clearly struggles in. Many in the bar think that by giving Pogba defensive duties, it holds him back from what he can bring to the team in terms of going forward.

With all that being said in recent weeks, the unhappiness and lack of form are going hand-in-hand as he’s been hauled off twice and dropped in a matter of three weeks.

Nabil Fekir

The Frenchman is having a wonderful season in Ligue 1 so far with Lyon, after getting over a serious injury. He’s found the back of the net on a regular basis as well as providing his teams with many assists, looking like a wonderful creative outlet. He’s one of the top performers in Europe at the moment and is sure to be hot property come the summer.

His 21 goals in 31 appearances make him a deadly player from a deep midfield position, and the additional glut of goals will go down well at Old Trafford.

Eden Hazard

The Chelsea man is sought after by Real Madrid, but there have been many reports linking him with a shock move up north. To replace Pogba with Hazard would be a huge deal, and with Hazard’s ability to interchange in a few positions up top, this could give Mourinho a wealth of choice in the final third.

Hazard has been in sparkling form for Chelsea over the years, with many of the fans in the bar feeling that it’s time for the little Belgian to move on to progress his career.
