Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Harry Kane will more than double his 100 goals for the club already.

Against Liverpool, Kane was given another chance to hit the 100 goal milestone and go second in the table of fastest to reach it behind Premier League legend, Alan Shearer. Coincidently it’s Shearer that many of our regulars in the bar are comparing Kane to, after his stunning start to life in the Premier League.

Shearer went from Southampton to Blackburn (winning the Premier League there in 1995) and finishing his career at his native club Newcastle United, where he became the clubs record scorer and a cult figure among the Toon Army.

Meanwhile, this England striker already is smashing records and scoring like he’s playing on the amateur level on Fifa in recent seasons. However, for Kane (rated at £108m by Transfermarkt) to truly fulfil his potential, many of the stalwarts in the pub feel Kane simply has to move on in order to push his career on.

Breaking records for your boyhood club is fine, and he could emulate Shearer in that way, but our landlord feels he’s never going to add a glut of trophies to his cabinet and be held in the same regard as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo while at Spurs.

So, with that in mind, here’s why Kane should leave Tottenham to reach his destiny.

Lack of winning mentality

While Spurs have excelled themselves in recent season, they have not got over the line in terms of winning trophies and many remember them finishing third in what was a two horse race against Leicester City. Many of the regulars believe Spurs are going in the right direction, but they don’t look and feel like a club that is going to take the Premier League title by storm, like Man City or even Chelsea did last season.

For Kane to put himself in the top three in the world, unfortunately for Spurs fans, he’ll have to move to a European giant or one of the Premier Leagues top three.

Overused

Kane is the number one striker at Spurs and it’s hard to think of reasons why he shouldn’t be. However, with that, comes the plethora of games he has to play a season as Pochettino has no real quality back up to him. If Kane doesn’t perform, generally Spurs don’t either.

If Kane were to be surrounded by three, maybe four quality players who can rotate and refresh each other throughout a season, we may see Kane move onto another level. The reliance on him could also lead to injuries, such as his hamstring twang earlier in the campaign.
