Our Liverpool supporters here within the Transfer Tavern walls are looking at replacements for their current captain Jordan Henderson, who has flattered to deceive the vast majority of our local Kopites.

The former Sunderland man followed club legend Steven Gerrard as captain of the Reds, certainly big boots to fill on Merseyside. Since then, many of our punters believe Henderson is not the type of player that can lead the club forward, considering the stature of one of Europe’s most famous clubs.

His on-the-pitch performances haven’t been inspiring or of the quality a skipper should be reaching in order to lift his team during the hard times they’ve been experiencing this season, with comparisons to good old Stevie G always likely.

In addition to returning from injury, Henderson’s been struggling for consistency and our barman feels that this is filtering through the team to bad effect. The club captain should be a leader and a motivator and the England man is lacking in both at this moment and, while he’s trying to emulate Gerrard’s style of play, many of our regulars think that concentrating on his own game and skillset would reap bigger rewards.

With the January window approaching, maybe it’s time that Klopp looks at these two alternatives…

Fabinho

Although the Brazilian is a right-back by trade at his current club Monaco, he is as comfortable playing centre midfield. Able to either dictate play from deep, or cut passing lines when his team are hit on the counter, he’s certainly the ideal lynchpin.

His defensive qualities could turn him into a class defensive midfielder and would provide much-needed cover for Liverpool’s fragile backline, as well as allowing their ridiculously talented frontline to roam free.

Arturo Vidal

If Klopp is looking for a midfield general, no-one comes more commanding than Chilean commander Arturo Vidal. The Bayern Munich man is currently reported to be unsettled at the Allianz Arena and a move for the 30-year-old could be a stroke of genius in regards to Liverpool’s season.

A truly wonderful box-to-box midfielder, the former Juventus man has seen and done it all at the top of European football and certainly has the tools to become a fan-favourite on Merseyside.
