We’re less than two months of the January transfer window and rumours are already flying.
The start of the year presents itself as one of the most important periods in the football calendar. For managers who need to tweak their squads, its the final opportunity to address some of the more concerning aspects of their teams play; title challenges are made or broken; and competitions dreams are realised or crushed, all because of the decisions made during this short market awakening.
‘To sign or not to sign?’
Despite spending big in the summer, Liverpool will be one of the sides keenly monitoring their scouting reports to find players to help boost their bid for the title. And they may need all the help they can get to topple Pep Guardiola’s flying City side.
Here are two players who would really help their charge…
Christian Pulisic
The poster boy of US football has been linked with Liverpool for some time now and was actually the subject of a failed bid back in 2016 (via LiverpoolEcho).
Since then, the 20-year-old starlet has made quite a name for himself over in the Bundesliga.
His pace and dribbling ability is perhaps the most outstanding aspect of his game, but the rest isn’t far off. There are sprinklings of creative know-how and finishing as well, with three goals and four assists to his name already this season.
Liverpool aren’t exactly short of suitors in the forward positions but, with a few players predicted to leave very soon, and Pulisic obviously possessing bundles of talent, we have no doubt that he’ll find a favourable spot in the first-team.
Jean Clair-Todibo
The signing of Clair-Todibo in January is pressing by virtue of the fact he’s one of the most sought-after talents in Europe and that his contract is due to run out very soon (via la Depeche).
Like his compatriot Issa Diop, who’s really made an impression in the Premier League, the young Frenchman is billed to make a move from Toulouse and succeed wherever he lands.
Indeed, the growth of Diop has probably alerted a number of teams to the potential that lays within young Ligue 1 prospects, and clubs will undoubtedly want to avoid the chance of missing out on signing another gem for the future.
Liverpool are solid at the back this year with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, but it wouldn’t hurt to have another central defender thrown into the mix to help protect the squad from injury debacles and provide healthy competition.
