Gerrard has these 2 players to thank for potential Rangers’ title charge

Rangers’ season so far is going well, by all accounts. The Steven Gerrard-led side are impressing in the Scottish top flight, and their new manager has made a quick start to life in Scotland.

Indeed, there are even rumblings of a potential title challenge on the cards at Ibrox.

With Celtic struggling, only Hearts sit above Rangers in the title race, and though it’s still early days, Rangers are certainly a team that have the makings of a potential title-challenging side.

Gerrard deserves some credit, of course he does, but some praise must also go to his players, some of whom have been simply brilliant.

Indeed, Gerrard has these 2 players to thank for potential Rangers’ title charge…

Scott Arfield

Scott Arfield only joined Rangers over the summer, and thus he’s only been at the club for a few months, but the Canadian is already beginning to look like a bit of a coup for Steven Gerrard.
He’s made 7 appearances in all competitions, picking up 2 goals along the way.
Constant involvement and energy have made him a valuable asset for the club, and so it’s no real surprise that Gerrard has called on him regularly.
He’s able to make an impact at both ends of the field, and so for Steven Gerrard – as he looks to build a title-winning team – Arfield will no doubt be at the centre of his plans.

Connor Goldson

Rangers’ defence last season looked average at best, and so it’s no real surprise that Steven Gerrard has looked to improve it. After all, they let in double the goals that Celtic did in the league last term, and that’s just not good enough.

Since moving to Rangers over the summer, Connor Golson has been just what they needed.

He’s restored order in the defence, and he’s taken to the Scottish top flight like a fish to water. Cool, composed and offering sheer quality at the back, he’s added some consistency to a faltering back-line.

As he continues to settle, he’ll likely only grow in importance, and for Rangers and Gerrard, that can only be a good thing.
