Gerrard would take Rangers one step closer to the 55 with swoop on £1.8m-rated veteran

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with Steven Gerrard’s early business in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool captain has wasted no time revamping his squad, making six signings already. Gerrard bolstered his back line with the signings of Connor Goldson from Brighton and Nikola Katic from Slaven Belupo. Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor both arrived on free transfers and Liverpool prospect, Ovie Ejaria, signed on loan.

Rangers show no signs of slowing down as they look to close the gap to Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title. Former Liverpool defender, Jon Flanagan, is set to join the club’s training camp in Spain ahead of a potential free transfer to Ibrox. Adding experience will be key in this transitional period.

The perfect summer signing could be Stoke City midfielder – Darren Fletcher. Valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, the former Scotland international joined the Potters just one year ago from West Brom and made 27 appearances in the Premier League with the club being relegated to the Championship. He would be an ideal candidate to add some much-needed experience into the squad.

Fletcher is a five-time Premier League winner with Manchester United and also lifted the Champions League during his time with the Red Devils. The 34-year-old has just one year remaining on his deal at the Bet365 Stadium and would surely jump at the chance to work with Gerrard in the Scottish Premiership.

His vast experience could prove valuable in the dressing room as Gerrard looks to end Celtic’s dominance.
