Glasgow Rangers: Fans fume at having to pay to see Europa League qualifier against Willem II

Glasgow Rangers stated on their official website and Twitter channel this morning that fans will be able to watch exclusive live coverage of tomorrow’s Europa League qualifier on Rangers TV, but the announcement has met with disdain from many supporters.

According to @RangersFC, the club’s in-house TV channel is ‘the only place’ to watch live coverage of the match against Willem II, with fans able to purchase a pass for the game for £9.99.

With football currently being played behind closed doors, ‘Gers fans are left dependent on the club’s coverage to see matches which aren’t televised by other broadcasters. However, virtual match passes for season ticket holders only cover home fixtures, while non-season ticket holders need to fork out £9.99 per game for viewing privileges (as per rangers.co.uk). This is after many supporters had already paid for season tickets despite being unable to attend matches for the foreseeable future.

Coverage of ‘Gers matches has been a sore point at times in recent weeks. In July, many supporters fumed over the club charging £12 to watch the pre-season friendly against Marseille on Rangers TV. Lat week, Premier Sports came under fire from a lot of ‘Gers fans over their coverage of the Europa League win over Lincoln Red Imps, when the picture dropped momentarily and missed a goal from Jermain Defoe.

These supporters on Twitter are now raging about the pay-per-view arrangements for tomorrow’s match, with one fan calling the club “shameless” over the latest charge for the Ibrox faithful to see their team in action:
