Glasgow Rangers: Fans react as ‘Gers set to complete signing of 16-year-old Tony Weston

Plenty of Glasgow Rangers fans have been reacting to transfer reports claiming that they are set to sign a promising young talent from the English Football League.

Jordan Campbell reported for The Athletic that the ‘Gers are about to sign 16-year-old striker Tony Weston from Blackpool, who had also attracted interest from Leeds and Southampton. The journalist subsequently shared the story on his Twitter profile @JordanC1107.

As per The Athletic, the teenager is from Huyton, the neighbourhood of Liverpool in which Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard grew up. Indeed, Weston lives only four doors away from the Gerrard family home.

The youngster scored 14 goals for Blackpool’s youth team last season and was given a first team debut in an FA Cup clash against Maidstone eight months ago, shortly after being called up to the senior squad by then-manager Simon Grayson. [via The Athletic]

Although Weston is closing on a move to the ‘Gers, another striker could be on his way out of Ibrox, with last season’s top scorer Alfredo Morelos strongly linked with a move to Lille.

These ‘Gers fans on Twitter had mixed reactions to the impending signing of the 16-year-old – some are excited about the apparent precocity of his talent while others view it as an inadequate method of trying to replace the potentially exit-bound Morelos:
