Darren Bent has urged Glasgow Rangers to tie Connor Goldson down to a new contract as soon as possible.
New Goldson deal needed
Goldson currently has 18 months left on his current contract, and it is being reported that a number of clubs will be interested in his services in January. West Ham and Leeds United were amongst the teams in pursuit during the summer.

As such, Rangers are believed to be looking to offer him a new contract. Speaking to Football Insider, Bent says this is a must for the 54-time Scottish champions. He proclaimed:
“It’s something they’ve got to get done quickly.
“I don’t know what it is about football clubs at the minute but they’re allowing their best players to get to their final year.
“I always think to myself, ‘don’t let your best players get to their final year’.
“He’s done really well for them so just get it done.
“I know clubs want to save money here and there but you can’t allow players to walk away for nothing.
“If they’re an integral part of your team don’t let them walk away.”
Gerrard can’t lose him
Goldson has been an ever-present for the Ibrox outfit so far this campaign – he has played in every one of their 20 games in all competitions, only one of three players to do so. With him at the heart of their defence, the Gers have conceded just seven goals – three of which came in one game against Benfica.

Rated at £6m+ by Rangers, he is a player that Steven Gerrard cannot afford to lose during this vital campaign. In January, it would be almost impossible to replace him. A new deal, you think, would warn off any other teams making a move for him or at least give Rangers the ability to reject a big offer.
In other news, this former Rangers manager is delighted with this transfer update.
