The club have today announced on Twitter that Vertonghen is fit and available for selection, to the delight of Spurs fans everywhere. The 31-year-old has been one of the club’s most important players since he joined from Ajax ahead of the 2012/13 season. This season is now Vertonghen’s sixth as a Spurs player and many fans believe he’s one of the most influential players alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
The Wembley crowd will be looking forward to tomorrow’s clash with Newcastle as Mauricio Pochettino’s side sit just two wins away from a 3rd place finish and guaranteed Champions League football for Tottenham’s first year in the new stadium. Vertonghen will play a big role in that, the classy ball-playing defender has been one of the best performers for the club in his years in North London and he’ll need to be at his best if the club are to be in the Champions League for a third straight year.
