The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have just about gotten over the fact that Toby Alderweireld will be leaving them this summer and with Manchester United his likely destination, the Belgian’s most recent tweet has irked Spurs fans.

Alderweireld’s tweet implied that his international front-man, Romelu Lukaku, is the greatest of all time. This could be seen as just a coincidence, however, the fact that Lukaku plies his trade at Old Trafford at club level has led to our local Lilywhites making the connection between Alderweireld and United. There’s a strong Premier League contingent in the Belgium squad and it would be no surprise to see Alderweireld swayed by the influence of his teammates.
The 29-year-old has some big decisions to make this summer though. After three years with Spurs Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the division and Tottenham could easily make upwards of £50 million on their star. Despite this, Alderweireld’s wife has a baby on the way and the defender would prefer to stay close to home as opposed to a move abroad, something that the Tottenham hierarchy do not want as selling him to a direct rival is not on the club’s agenda.

As you can see, the Spurs fans think the opinion of Alderweireld is ludicrous and that he can just up and leave now with his views on Lukaku potentially hinting at his summer move.
