This should have been a fantastic weekend for Glasgow Rangers.
The Gers beat Nice on Saturday 2-0 to win the Veolia Trophy, which should provide a fantastic boost for the club as they continue their pre-season preparations. However, the Gers have found themselves involved in a situation where there are having to make it clear they are against racism – which is obviously a given anyway.

Prior to the match against Lyon on Thursday, portions of the club’s fanbase were for some reason disgusted by the team’s decision to take the knee in support of racial equality – it has become a symbol of the Black Lives Matter movement. Then, on Friday, striker Alfredo Morelos was subjected to racial abuse from one of his own supporters.
This has led to the Ibrox outfit’s managing director Stewart Robertson releasing a statement saying that the Gers are a club that is open to all, and that no-one should be discriminated against. This has received widespread praise from the fans, although some have highlighted the fact that the club needed to say this at all is worrying.
