Noel Whelan believes that Alfredo Morelos is finally repaying Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s faith in him.
The Colombia international is now entering his third season under the former Liverpool man at Ibrox, and whilst there have been plenty of positive moments – he has 59 goals in those two campaigns in all competitions – he has at times struggled with his temperament, picking up seven red cards along the way.

Morelos recently scored a brace against St. Mirren in the Premiership, and Whelan believes it is proof he is showing Gerrard he can be someone he can rely on. He told Football Insider:
“It is very pleasing because sometimes you have seen that petulance in a player throughout the years but maybe he is repaying the loyalty that Steven has shown him.
“It is very easy to fall out of love with a player like that but that is a reaction of a player that is professional. A player that wants to go out and do the best for the club he is at until whatever time that may be.”
Gerrard will certainly need to feel he can rely on the 24-year-old this coming season if he does not complete a move to Lille, as has been mooted. The boss is yet to win a trophy north of the border, and he can surely not afford to go a third campaign without a piece of silverware and stay in his job.

If the star forward can continue to produce the same kind of form we saw on Sunday, then he could have a big say on the term’s final outcome.
