Glasgow Rangers will have a busy summer ahead of them as manager Steven Gerrard tries to improve his squad to battle Celtic for the Scottish Premiership next season. However it looks like key player Alfredo Morelos could be on his way out following the latest reports.
According to Sky Sports, the forward has agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille. All that is left is for the two clubs to agree a fee for Morelos, as no formal offer has been submitted yet.
Lille are desperate for a striker as it looks like Victor Oshimen will be leaving for Serie A side Napoli.
The 24 year-old, who is valued at £13.50 million on Transfermarkt, has been at the club for three seasons after joining from HJK Helsinki for £1.08m, and been a lethal threat for the Scottish side, scoring 77 goals in 137 appearances in all competitions.
This is a great goal tally for the forward to have, and with him still so young, he looks to have a lot of potential to get even better. Gerrard has come out and said in the past, per Sky Sports: “We haven’t got enough options in the number nine area at the moment. We’re actively looking to strengthen in that area. We have to be patient and try and get the right one in.”
The fact that the manager wanted to improve his attacking options with Morelos still in the side emphasises how big a loss Morelos could be for the club if he was allowed to depart.
If the Gers do allow him to leave, they will need to already have one if not two replacements ready so that they can have a full pre-season with the new players settled.
It looks like Morelos wants to leave as he has agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 side, so there is no point trying to keep him, but the club need to make sure they get a fair bit of money for him so that they can strengthen and not full further behind in the race to win the league next campaign.
