Chelsea monitoring Brighton star as contract uncertainty opens door to potential raid

Share

Chelsea could look to strengthen their midfield options as they continue their 2026-27 campaign, with the club keeping an eye on potential opportunities ahead of future transfer windows.

The Blues have continued to recruit young talent in recent seasons, with their recruitment strategy placing an emphasis on players who can contribute immediately while offering long-term value.

However, the opportunity to sign an established Premier League performer could prove attractive, particularly if uncertainty over a player’s contract creates a potential opening in the transfer market.

Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari has reportedly emerged as a player of interest to Chelsea, with developments over his future at the Amex Stadium potentially putting several clubs on alert.

Chelsea Interested in Yasin Ayari

Chelsea have joined the race to monitor Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari, according to TEAMtalk, with negotiations over a new contract reportedly stalling.

Journalist Graeme Bailey reported on 21 October that the Blues are keeping tabs on the Sweden international as uncertainty grows over his long-term future with the Seagulls.

Ayari, 23, has become an important figure under Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, attracting interest from several clubs following his performances in the Premier League.

His current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, although Brighton have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

However, TEAMtalk reports that Brighton have yet to activate that clause, despite expectations from the midfielder’s representatives that the club would do so.

Discussions over fresh terms have reportedly been ongoing since before the summer, but difficulties in negotiations have left the door open for rival clubs to monitor the situation.

Chelsea are among those interested, with sporting director Paul Winstanley already familiar with the midfielder from his previous role at Brighton, where he worked as head of scouting before leaving in November 2022.

The Blues have established a strong recruitment relationship with Brighton in recent years, signing several players from the south coast, including Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro.

Ayari could now become another potential target as Chelsea assess their options ahead of upcoming transfer windows.

However, the London club are not alone in monitoring his situation, with Turkish giants Galatasaray also reportedly interested in securing his services.

Several other Premier League sides are understood to be keeping an eye on developments, while clubs in the Saudi Pro League have also made enquiries.

Ayari has contributed two assists in Brighton’s opening six league matches and has become an important part of Hurzeler’s midfield, with his influence extending beyond his direct goal contributions.

Brighton will be keen to retain a player who has established himself as a key member of their squad, particularly given their strong start to the campaign.

Nevertheless, the uncertainty surrounding his contract could complicate matters if negotiations fail to progress.

The option to extend his existing deal gives Brighton some protection, but the situation could become increasingly significant as the season progresses.

For Chelsea, the prospect of signing a talented midfielder with Premier League experience could be an appealing opportunity. However, no agreement has been reported, and any potential move will depend on how Ayari’s contract situation develops in the coming months.
