Chelsea’s affinity for Brighton players continues to shape the spine of their squad.
Current Blues stars Joao Pedro, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez all made the switch from the Seagulls, while Facundo Buonanotte joined on loan for the first half of the 2025-26 season.
Now, Chelsea are reportedly eyeing another Brighton talent to bolster competition in the squad and provide additional quality for one of their former Seagulls teammates.
The club is intent on maintaining a mix of youth and experience, while continuing to tap into the proven development pipeline from the south coast.
Chelsea Keen on Verbruggen
Chelsea are preparing a serious summer bid to sign Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, according to TEAMtalk.
The Blues are reportedly willing to meet Brighton’s asking price, believed to exceed £50 million, for the talented shot-stopper.
Verbruggen joined Brighton from Anderlecht and quickly impressed, earning praise from Brighton manager Fabian Huerzeler, who described him as “outstanding.”
Chelsea view him as a potential competitor for Robert Sanchez’s No. 1 spot, rekindling a link between the two players who briefly overlapped at the Amex Stadium before Sanchez departed for Stamford Bridge in 2023.
TEAMtalk notes that Chelsea’s goalkeeping leadership, including Paul Winstanley and global head Ben Roberts, have long been tracking Verbruggen’s progress, emphasizing the club’s strategic interest in securing the 23-year-old.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Verbruggen underscores their ongoing strategy of recruiting top Brighton talent. Adding the Dutch goalkeeper would not only strengthen the squad but also ensure intense competition for the goalkeeping spot—yet another sign of how the Blues are reshaping their roster around proven Seagulls stars.
