The 2024/25 Premier League campaign was another phenomenal one for Brighton and Hove Albion, and owner Tony Bloom and his board management team again showed foresight and consistency in their decisions with the appointment of the top flight’s youngest ever manager in the shape of Fabian Hurzeler.
The 32 year old had a great first season in charge and led us Seagulls to an eighth place finish in the table and we were only a few points shy of Nottingham Forest and the final European qualification place for the season. Very few would have predicted that we would get that close, and it would not matter if you take a flutter on the odds or even use the best bitcoin casino online, where we finished was not in question given the gamble that our new manager was presumed to be when he was first appointed.
But our United States born former German youth international midfielder will be looking for more as he goes into his second season in charge at the Amex, and although this has been a strange and disrupted summer given the expanded Club World Cup competition and a totally unnecessary additional transfer window, Brighton’s plans for the coming year are in full flow and we have again looked for a reasonably relative unknown when it comes to the summer (proper) transfer window.
We have now long been known for picking up gems for very reasonable transfer fees and then developing them further and selling at a premium to reinvest and leave the club largely self sustaining, and we may well have found the next one off the production line in the shape of Hellas Verona centre half Diego Coppola.
The 21 year old has now officially joined us for an undisclosed fee (although it is reported as being in the region of £9.5 million) and he has signed a five year contract at the club, but for those who do not know much about the Serie A side or the player himself, he is incredibly highly rated and has already earned himself two Italian international caps despite Verona finishing down in 14th place in the Serie A table last season.
The youngster came through the clubs youth Academy and initially made his debut for their senior side back in 2021, and he leaves the club having made 81 appearances in total for them, scoring four times. In the 2024/25 campaign he made 35 appearances with a return of two goals.
As the club announced their second signing of the summer following on from the pretty unexpected £29.8 million capture of 18 year old Olympiakos hotshot Charalampos Kostoulas, who also previously agreed a five year deal with us, Hurzeler was delighted with this capture and whilst he urged some sense of caution when it came to immediate expectations, he fully believed that the player would continue to develop into a top class talent for us and he felt that his physicality and style of play would more than make him an asset in the coming campaign of 2025/26.
Having had a taste of senior Italian international football, he is currently in the Under 21s squad as they take on the challenge of the European Championships hosted by Slovakia this summer.
