Brighton & Hove Albion have already seen several notable departures this summer, leaving Fabian Hurzeler with plenty of work to do as he reshapes his squad.
Danny Welbeck has moved to Chelsea, while Jan Paul van Hecke joined Tottenham in a major deal. Joël Veltman has also left for West Ham, with goalkeeper Carl Rushworth completing a permanent switch to Coventry City.
Now another Brighton player could be heading for the exit, although this time the move would be temporary.
Genoa Keen on Evan Ferguson
Serie A side Genoa are exploring a loan move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, with talkSPORT reporting that the Italian club are interested in bringing the Republic of Ireland international back to Italy.
Ferguson, described as “outstanding” by Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards, has endured a difficult period with injuries and has not featured for Brighton since December 2024.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan in Serie A with Roma after also having a temporary spell at West Ham during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. His time in the Italian capital was disrupted by an ankle injury, limiting him to just 16 league starts.
That same problem is now affecting his immediate future. Ferguson is not expected back until October at the earliest, making a permanent transfer particularly difficult to complete this summer.
Genoa are nevertheless keen to take a chance on the talented forward, potentially giving Ferguson another opportunity to rebuild his fitness and rediscover his form in Italy.
For Brighton, a temporary move could make sense given Ferguson’s current injury situation, while allowing the club to retain a player who was once regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.
