Chelsea fans are likely looking forward to a new regime under a new manager in the form of Maurizio Sarri. The Italian has now officially moved to Stamford Bridge from Napoli, and he’s already made his mark on the club.
Jorginho has followed him to London, and now he could be looking to bring another favourite player to the club.
According to the Express, the Blues want Gonzalo Higuain to move to Chelsea as Sarri continues to place his mark on the squad. Higuain previously played under the Italian at Napoli, where he was deadly.
Rated at £54 million by Transfer Markt, Higuain wouldn’t be cheap, that’s for sure, but he comes with a rich pedigree and plenty of goals in his locker.
But where exactly would he fit in? Let’s take a look…
Eden Hazard is the one player that Chelsea cannot afford to lose.
The Blues’ team is built entirely around him, and it’s important that they hang on to him.
He offers dominant dribbling and pace down the left-flank, and he proved during the World Cup that he’s as good as anyone else in world football.
The Belgian will get better if Sarri gets his man.
Gonzalo Higuain, despite his drawbacks, is a top-class forward.
He’s often scored on a near-weekly basis over the last few years, and whilst he wasn’t as good last term, his natural talent is clear for all to see.
As far as lethal goalscorers go, they don’t come much better. Furthermore, he’s also got years of top-class experience behind him – both under Sarri and under other managers – and that could be of huge use.
A short-term fix, yes, but what a fix.
Granted, Aleksandr Golovin – who has been linked with a move to Chelsea – has generally played more centrally, and you could argue that he’d be perfect in a Sarri midfield three – but would he be better suited to a role on the right?
He certainly has all the required attributes.
Golovin is lightning fast, he’s got bags of energy, he’s a fantastic finisher, runner and dribbler and he has incredible technical ability.
You’d be mistaken if you thought that last sentence was describing Willian, who could be off to Barcelona. Perhaps the Russian would be a good replacement.
