According to The Daily Mail, Harry Redknapp has lined up Brazilian play maker Willian – IF Luka Modric departs to Chelsea.
Andre Villas-Boas has been courting Luka Modric all summer and has had multiple bids knocked back already. Redknapp and Levy have made their stance very clear over the past few months: Luka Modric is NOT for sale. But as we so often see, the ‘bigger’ clubs (apologies for the use of that phrase) get their way more often than not and it would be foolish not to line up a replacement just in case.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Willian of Shakhtar Donetsk has been sounded out as an ideal €20m replacement for Luka Modric should he depart. The skilled midfielder, who can operate on either wing aswell, has a decent passing range and good dribbling ability in addition to some good old Brazilian flair.
Willian has never recieved a full cap for Brazil but has 11 U20 caps and a Work Permit is not thought to be a foreseeable issue. He was once a target for local rivals neighbours and should they capture him it would be both a feather in Redknapp’s cap and the recruitment of a very talented player. He has made close to 100 appearances for Shakhtar since joining in 2007 and has featured in the Champions League and the Europa Cup. The adapting process to the Premier League would likely be swift since he has played against English opposition before and has more than a taste for European football.
Is he as good as Luka Modric? Probably not, but it would be an adequate start in replacing the midfield maestro if he were to leave. What are your thoughts on Willian?

the first sentence ended any interest, the moment anyone mentions “Daily Mail” you know is rubbish
If only Chelsea had not conducted this attempt to sign Modric through such a rubbish paper as the daily Mail then the chances are they would have succeded. There is not a club in the country who does value him in the 35 milliion range yet the starting attempt of 22 million was joke. subsequently we have had trial ballons floated by the Daily Mail and others of including Drogba, Benayoun and Alex—none of whom Spurs would want–to try and get the deal going. If Chelsea do not sign him they have only themselves to blame.

The mail have been trying to engineer this move all summer, one has to ask WHY.!!!!!
He ain’t as good as Modric (if he were Chelsea and others would be after him too). No way should we sell Modric to Chelsea – whatever they offer; they are desperate and deserve to be.
This is Buck asking Mudocs gutter press to keep the tapping going this wont happen and is a waste of ink. I belive Spurs will sign the players that will make sure Chelsea finish behind Spurs.
Thanks for saving me the trouble, but anyone know why they’ve such a bone on about us? or are they just another of Roman’s arse lickers?
