Tottenham’s difficult start to the season has left Roberto De Zerbi with plenty of problems to solve, but their struggles in front of goal could be among the most pressing.
Spurs spent heavily during the summer as they looked to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League.
However, their attacking options have failed to consistently deliver, leaving supporters frustrated and questioning whether the club got enough done in the final third.
That has inevitably led to attention turning towards a familiar face who has been thriving since leaving north London. The former Spurs academy striker has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent months, and his latest international heroics have sparked suggestions Tottenham could try to bring him home.
Spurs Handed Troy Parrott Blow
Tottenham have been linked with a potential move to bring Troy Parrott back to the club, but Real Betis have made their position extremely clear.
Parrott came through the Spurs academy before eventually leaving the club permanently for AZ Alkmaar in 2024. After developing in the Netherlands, he earned a move to Betis during the summer and has continued to enhance his reputation in Spain.
His form for the Republic of Ireland has only increased the attention surrounding him. Parrott scored twice against Austria, including a spectacular individual effort, taking his tally to nine goals in his last six competitive international appearances.
That form has encouraged some Tottenham supporters to dream about a return, particularly given their current struggles for goals. However, Betis have moved quickly to shut down the speculation.
When a Tottenham supporters’ account asked whether Parrott should be brought back, Betis’ official English account simply responded: “No.”
The Spanish club’s stance is understandable given the investment they have made in the 24-year-old. Parrott signed a contract running until 2031 and has a €100 million release clause, meaning Tottenham would face a substantial financial hurdle if they seriously wanted to reverse the decision to sell him, according to Estadio Deportivo.
Parrott has already scored twice for Betis this season despite not being an undisputed starter, with Cucho Hernandez also competing for minutes. His continued progress means Betis appear to have little interest in allowing him to leave after only recently bringing him to Spain.
For Tottenham, that makes a reunion increasingly difficult. Their former academy forward is flourishing elsewhere, while Spurs are left to consider whether his development could have been handled differently.
With Betis firmly against selling and Parrott tied down for the long term, Tottenham may have to look elsewhere for the attacking solution they currently need.
