Chelsea could make another major investment in their attacking options as they assess potential additions ahead of the January transfer window.
With the Blues continuing to build a squad capable of competing for major honours, Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has reportedly emerged as a player of interest.
The 23-year-old Spain international has attracted attention from several European clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain also considering a move.
Chelsea previously attempted to sign López in 2025, and fresh reports suggest the London club could revisit their interest if the opportunity arises.
Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Consider Major Fermín López Bid
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea and PSG are both prepared to make significant offers for López, who remains an important part of Barcelona’s plans under Hansi Flick.
A source with links to the agents industry told CaughtOffside: “PSG are preparing a serious offer worth around €80million for Fermin Lopez,” before adding: “Chelsea are also considering a massive bid.”
The reported interest could set up a transfer battle between the Premier League side and the French champions. However, neither club has confirmed a formal bid, and any deal would depend on Barcelona’s position and the player’s willingness to leave his boyhood club.
Chelsea are familiar with López, having reportedly made a significant offer for him in the summer of 2025. The midfielder opted to remain at Barcelona, but the latest reports suggest the Blues could be willing to return if his circumstances change.
López’s ability to operate as an attacking midfielder, contribute goals and create chances makes him an appealing option. His performances have also strengthened his reputation as a versatile attacking talent capable of influencing games from advanced positions.
Competition for places at Barcelona could be one factor to monitor, although there is no confirmation that López is actively seeking an exit. CaughtOffside reports that Chelsea and PSG currently have the most concrete interest, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also made enquiries about his situation.
Barcelona, meanwhile, would reportedly prefer to retain the midfielder but could face pressure to consider substantial offers amid their financial challenges. López signed a contract extension in February 2026, keeping him at the club until 2031, meaning negotiations would likely require a significant financial commitment.
Chelsea may also have other priorities for January. The report identifies Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as a potential focus for the Blues, meaning any pursuit of López could depend on how their wider transfer plans develop.
