Everton could look to make a major statement in the January transfer window as David Moyes considers ways to strengthen his side’s attacking options.

After concerns over the team’s lack of goals, the Toffees are reportedly exploring a move for a forward with proven Premier League experience.

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has emerged as a potential target, with reports suggesting Everton are discussing the possibility of bringing the England international to Merseyside.

A deal would give Moyes another versatile attacking option, although several key details would need to be resolved before a transfer could progress.

Toffees Discuss Marcus Rashford Move

According to Football Insider, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes a move for Rashford is being discussed seriously ahead of the January window.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “Yes, this is definitely being talked about and quite strongly. And I think that could be an interesting solution.”

The former Everton chief executive also pointed to Rashford’s previous loan spells and suggested that a move closer to Manchester could benefit the player.

“Rashford did well when he was on loan at Villa and at Barcelona as well. I think it could work, and I think being close to where he is in Manchester, just along the M63, could also benefit him greatly as well,” Wyness explained.

The comments suggest that a January switch is a possibility worth monitoring, although neither club has confirmed an agreement. Separate reporting from FootballTransfers has also indicated that Everton and Manchester United have held early discussions over a potential winter move.

Wyness drew comparisons with Jack Grealish, who has made an impact at Everton when available, adding: “We’ve seen Jack (Grealish) moving across that way as well, and when he’s fit, Jack is certainly a big asset for Everton. So I think Rashford would be a very interesting signing, and I’m hearing there’s a lot of smoke here; it’s definitely being discussed.”

He then added: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see something happening in January.”

For Everton, Rashford’s versatility could be a major attraction. Although he has often operated from the left, he can also play centrally, potentially giving Moyes additional options across the frontline. His arrival could provide support for Thierno Barry and help address the team’s need for more goals.

However, the financial structure of any deal would be important. Everton would need to consider Rashford’s wages, Manchester United’s valuation and whether a permanent transfer or loan arrangement would be realistic. The forward’s willingness to join another Premier League club would also be a significant factor.

What This Means for Everton

Rashford could represent an ambitious addition for Everton if the club can find an agreement that works financially. His Premier League experience and ability to operate in several attacking positions would give Moyes greater flexibility, while a change of environment could offer the player a fresh start.

The comparison with Grealish is particularly relevant to Everton’s approach. The club could look to provide Rashford with an environment in which he can rebuild his confidence and contribute more consistently, although any potential success would depend on his fitness, form and role within the team.

Nevertheless, a transfer is far from guaranteed. The reported discussions remain at an early stage, and Everton must still resolve the financial details and establish whether Rashford would be open to the move.

For now, Wyness’s comments add weight to speculation surrounding Everton’s January plans. If negotiations progress, Rashford could become a name to watch as Moyes looks to strengthen his attacking options for the second half of the season.
