Everton and Real Madrid have shared a few players over the years, from Royston Drenthe and James Rodriguez to Thomas Gravesen and Samuel Eto’o.
Now, another Everton star could potentially join that group, with Real Madrid reportedly considering a surprise move for one of the Toffees’ most important defenders.
Madrid considering Branthwaite move
Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of a potential future move, according to Goal.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading young defenders, combining his size and composure with valuable top-flight experience. Everton boss David Moyes has also described Branthwaite as “excellent”.
Madrid are said to view the centre-back as a strong fit for their defensive plans, but Everton’s reported €93m (£79.9m) valuation could make negotiations difficult.
The Spanish giants have already strengthened their defence, but Branthwaite’s profile is understood to have kept him firmly on their radar.
Everton, meanwhile, have no desire to sell their defensive lynchpin and are expected to demand a substantial fee before even considering an approach.
With the Toffees reportedly placing an £79.9 million price tag on their prized asset, Madrid would have to make a significant investment to bring Branthwaite to the Bernabeu.
